It's intriguing that Mark uses the word "Skills" to describe these entrepreneurial qualities. Does that imply they can be learned or adopted? Some of the skills seem more like innate character traits. My takeaway is that these skills come naturally to some but can be learned by others. In any case, if you don't have all or most of those characteristics, keep your day job or start a conventional small business in a market that isn't hypercompetitive. I can do that!

Hey Nivi,

Your post is 2 yrs old now, but the comment thread still shows activity so I thought I'd chime in :)

If you like PT, I think you'd find a lot of value in using Planio.com . It’s still in Beta but I think it delivers on very important features that Pivotal does not cover:
- Sorting and filtering of stories (see stories that matter to you and hide the ones that don't)
- Progress indicators (know where you, your team and co-workers stand with respect to the schedule)
- Integrated feedback management (embed our feedback widget in your site and feedback is added to Planio automagically)
- Drag and drop file attachments in stories

You can even import a project from Pivotal Tracker, and can export your data any time...

Give it a try and let me know what you think! We'd love to build a tool that VH and its readership would find useful.

After spending over 20 years as a V.C. and small business advocate...never heard so much "malarky" in my life. My organization reviewed over 150 deals a year and our goal was to do four. We analyzed the business plan (which is a selling document), applied our due diligence, research, etc. and produced a "Letter of Agreement." That letter of agreement was then passed on to the participants lawyers, closing documents came forth to be signed, sealed and delivered. We acted as lead investors, and syndicated where necessary. Worked in concert with Governments, Economic Development folks, Corporations and others that could bring "Added Value" to the deal. Our goal was to bring the "Added Value" based on experience with other new ventures and industries, contacts, networking, campaigning, board representation, etc.
